There are lots of great places in Devon to eat and drink but here are some of our local choices and favourites
The café/restaurant in the “House of Marbles” serves excellent breakfasts including the full English “Top of the Morning”. This includes tea or coffee, orange juice, toast and jam/marmalade. You can “make your own” and there are exotic options too like “Avacodo and Salmon” or you can even have a scone.
Breakfast - House of Marbles
This traditional tea room serves breakfast from 9am – 10.30am. Full English and some lighter options. It has a lovely garden if the weather is good.

Probably our favourite, Ian the owner and chef is brilliant and so is the breakfast.
Menus | The Phoenix Chudleigh
Trusham is not quite as remote as you might think and we are lucky enough to have a 24 hour McD's that you can easily get to. You may have seen it at Winning Post Services on the top of Haldon Hill as you drove to us but the easiest and quickest way is to drive down past the Cridford, go straight up the hill out of the village, ignoring all side roads until you reach the top and Belvedere Tower. Then turn right past Haldon Forest/Go Ape until you get to the A38 flyover. Just BEFORE that you can turn right into the services. The lanes are relatively easy and it is only around 4 miles, less than a 10 Minute drive. Personally we love the sausage and egg muffin! You are straight on the A38 then if you are going on a day trip.
Our nearest and dearest, just down the hill and set in a lovely ancient thatched Devon longhouse with seating on the sunny terrace at the front. The chef is excellent and often prepares dishes with an Asian influence.

Owner and top chef Ian Nixon cooks great food and we highly recommend all of it.
Menus | The Phoenix Chudleigh
Situated in the next closest village in the Teign Valley, less than 3 miles by lane (there is a lovely circular walk if you are going for lunch) or 3.4 if you go up the Teign Valley Road. The walk is detailed here.
The Manor has a large, sunny garden, currently with a Marquee in case the weather is not so good. The food again is excellent.
RESTAURANT & BAR | Manor Inn
If Indian is your thing we recommend our local one, specialising in Indian and Nepalese. A small, intimate Indian restaurant in the centre of Bovey. The food is good and the service is excellent in our experience.
Royal Gurkha Spice - Bovey Tracey | Home
Just Eat and similar do not deliver here. They weren’t able to find any riders with the skills required to tackle the pitch black hills and Devon lanes at night. Bear Grylls was otherwise engaged!
There are however a couple of takeaways in Chudleigh that will deliver using other means:
Mei Wah, Chinese – 01626 853714 - Welcome to Mei Wah (meiwahchinese.com) – From 5pm but closed Tuesday
Rominoss Pizza, serve Pizza, Kebab, Burgers and Fish and Chips – 01626 685796 - Rominoss pizza - Home | Facebook
If you are willing to go out and collect a takeaway then our other favourites are The Cridford, The Phoenix, Choys of Bovey (Choys Of Bovey Tracey | Facebook), Royal Gurkha Spice, Chudleigh Chippy (Chudleigh Chippy - Fish And Chips) and the Fairy Cod Mother (Fairy Cod Mother - Home | Facebook). The latter is a van that tours the local villages, please ask us if you are interested.
